Illusion
Lee, ku-yeol(art critic)
1f we describe the trend 0f conternporary art in a word, it comd be summarized
with various and poplnar expansion of the aesthetic 0f absolute abstractionism
and figurative arts welch creatively transform and reconstruct actual
subjects. lllusionismor surrealism which expresses individual feehngs
and imagination accummated and reconstructed throughout individuals hfeexpehences,
becomes meaningful in conterilporary art due to its attempts to create
a new art ftee from former representativereallsm or naturalism. As witnessed
in a certain art books titie, 'Art has gone through changes in nistory',
conternporury art has changed ftom thepast- And also for sure it is inevitable
that there should be a new artistic trend for the 2lst century.

1fis s0 natural that every artist should transform its tradition according
to hisfuer own sodety or environment, park, 6wang-Jaisart works als0 represent
her own way of transforming tradition with conternporary elements. lt
reflects her own artistic sense sand spirit oftimes in her expression.
She has been performing continuous trials and experiments in order t0
prove her creativity,as witnessed in her works. parE, Gwang-Ja's Doric
where female senses and profound imaginahveness are expressed, displayst
hat she combines and harmonizes two counnon trends ofcomtemporary art
- abstraction and figurative arts - instead ofmakingthem opposite. lm

ln her early work, she expressed peace fm and beautifuumages 0f nature
and impression from natural energies and changes justfike many women artists.
But she gradually moved to more abstracdfree expression 0f images. For
instance, in the sea or tiverwhere various fish are swirnming4here suddenly
appear a bunch 0f flowers and musical instruments such as trumpet and
so 0n.Thus she tried to express allusion or dream. And from there, she
came to her recent way 0f expression that abstrachon and figurahve arts
were harmonized. 1n her recentwork, she seems to eitjoy various ways to
express and to be satisfied with her own achievements, which is very natural.concrete
subjects in her recent works are al1 kinds 0f flowers 0f distinct colors,
butterflies and do?es and pofacocks as symbnlsof natural images. And also
through viohns and cellos or musical notes

and njanos, she attempts to visualize invialhie musicwnich she enjoys
very much.
And also in her two thmensional and free composition, she attempts to
represent her desire for harmony and Hlualon. And witha11 this, partly
figurahve subjects and bight colors goes together wen. These harmonized
combination is certalfuy due to femaleartist's own senses.ln this sense,
we could keep our eyes on her future progresses of changes of her style.we
could have hope and faith in her future artistic potential a8 dearly proved
in her present passion for art.
